TJAF gave the Wake Forest Historical Association a grant to conduct a professional geographic survey at the Friendship Chapel Cemetery. The survey used ground-penetrating radar to determine the number and placement of marked and unmarked graves, ultimately identifying 567 burials along with a mass grave. The survey’s findings qualified the cemetery for recognition as a local historic landmark. The Wake Forest Historical Association was a 2016 grant recipient.
