The Jandy Ammons Foundation Awards $234,720 To 11 North Carolina Organizations
2014 Grant Totals Increase $147,720 From 2013
Raleigh, NC – January 20, 2015 – Eleven North Carolina-based nonprofits will have a greater impact in 2015 thanks to The Jandy Ammons Foundation, Inc. The local family foundation is giving $234,720 to help the nonprofits fund projects that will collectively support active lifestyles, youth development and exploration.
Last year the Foundation gave five organizations $87,000. The 2014 grant totals are an increase of 180 percent in gifts to more than double the organizations.
“Charitable organizations create valuable and needed opportunities for North Carolina communities,” says Jan Ammons, The Jandy Ammons Foundation co-founder and president. “Our goal is to seek out those with a strong volunteer base who are planning unique projects that contribute to the health and wellness of their communities. They simply need the capital to propel them forward.” Jan, an avid community supporter and volunteer, has given her time to the public school system, parks and trails in her municipality, and church missions. She and her husband, Andy Ammons, have witnessed the power of inventive solutions that blend learning with the arts, the environment and the mission field – it was the guiding factor for the creation of The Jandy Ammons Foundation.
The 2014 grant recipients and their planned projects are:
- Clubs In The City of Raleigh will purchase a van for youth transportation;
- Lands and Waters South of Carrboro will create a living laboratory for elementary and middle school science education;
- Museum of Life and Science of Durham will build a Hideaway Woods sensory-driven exhibit;
- Artspace of Raleigh will revitalize their museum lobby through an art installation;
- Friends of Hemlock Bluffs of Cary will create a children’s nature trail;
- North Carolina Rail-Trails of Elkin will install a wildflower meadow and walking loop;
- Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities of Raleigh will acquire life skills training equipment;
- The Daniel Center for Math and Science of Raleigh will purchase a van for student transportation;
- Orange County Partnership for Young Children of Chapel Hill will plant a Garden of Tropical Wonders for wildlife and science education;
- Raleigh Little Theatre of Raleigh will install an assistive listening system;
- Miracle League of the Triangle of Raleigh has built a field house at the North Raleigh location.
This is the second round of grants given by the Jandy Ammons Foundation, which was launched in 2012 by Jan and Andy Ammons. The 11 grant recipients went through a thorough application and review process before being selected.
“Through the Foundation, we are able to seek out and fund organizations’ projects that need capital support to get out of the planning phase and into implementation,” says Andy. “We are excited about the ideas that these nonprofits bring to the table.”
“Our goal is to find projects that span the state and provide a variety of opportunities for positive life experiences,” says Gina Teague, the Foundation’s Executive Director, “This is our way of reaching as many people as possible.”
Letters of Inquiry for 2015 projects are being accepted through May 4, 2015. For more information on the grant proposal process, please visit: www.TheJandyAmmonsFoundation.org
